Let the Right One In (2008) vs. Let Me In (2010)
I’m not really the type who usually would post something about movies I’ve seen but since Hollywood came up with a version of a movie that I really love, I felt strongly enough to write about it. I may be judging the Hollywood version a little too early since I haven’t seen it yet but after seeing the trailer I’m not that convinced about seeing this version of the movie…well at least I know for sure that I won’t be paying $12 to see it in the cinema.
The one thing that makes Let the Right One In particularly effective for me as a horror film is the silence of the film. Like literally, silence. No fancy-schmancy sound effects that make you jump from your seat. It made the movie a little less predictable for me and it gave me more chills after seeing the movie. Plus, kids just freak me out more. Maybe a mixture of Tiyanak exposure growing up and maybe Anak ni Janice :]]
I don’t think the Hollywood trailers didn’t make this little thing about the movie clear but this is a vampire movie. One of my worries is that they would turn this into another Twilight fiasco. I sure hope not. The romantic part was a bit odd especially when they were exchanging lines because they were kids but I think it still does not compare to Robert and Kristen’s awkward scenes in Twilight when they profess their partially undying love for each other. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_AXprdAkLU) It’s nothing like that, I promise.
If you’re a fan of horror films and are planning to watch Let Me In, I strongly suggest that you see the original Swedish version before or at least after. I promise you won’t regret it :]
